Swahili Literature

I am trying to find out what the best books in Swahili literature are. I plan on going to through one with a dictionary to get a better feel for the language. I do not want to read just any book however. If I am going to put that much effort in, I would like to read a classic that most Swahili speakers have read--or at least heard of. Any suggestions?

There are several swahili books that most Tanzanians read in school, here is a few of them:

1. Ngoswe - Kitovu cha Uzembe

2. Usiku Utakapokwisha

3. Vuta Nikuvute

4. Aliyeonja Pepo

5. Watoto Wa Mamantilie
